Jackie Greene Back in the Bay

Updated: Dec 5

On the last day of June in Novato at Hopmonk Tavern, the talented singer songwriter, Jackie Greene graced the stage for KCTurner Presents summer concert series. 'Twas an absolutely sold out show heaving with music lovers from all around the bay area for Jackie's return. Tracorum, a four piece band from San Francisco opened the show, complete with female drummer, Daria 'Shani' Johnson.

Jackie and his band played for a couple hours to an adoring audience consisting of many tie dye wearing dead heads and music lovers of all sorts. He played approximately 15 songs but didn't go strictly to his play list. At beginning of his set, only a couple of songs in, a young girl, around 12 years old presented Jackie with a drawing of hers and she had a song request, of which he did not disappoint and he immediately switched up the setlist in order to accommodate her request.

He then went on to play his much loved tunes and had everyone dancing and enjoying the music. I've seen him perform loads of times throughout the past dozen+ years and his shows have never disappointed me or anyone I've ever brought to his shows. And this show was no different. I had a great time as did all the happy faces of the concert goers in the audience that filled up the outdoor area at the Hopmonk Tavern!

Jackie Greene is a 43 year old father of two, originally from the Sacramento area. He's a talented singer songwriter and a multi instrumentalist. Greene plays guitar, keyboards, harmonica, banjo, mandolin and drums. He has played and toured nationally with many musicicans including, Gov't Mule, Huey Lewis, Mark Knopfler, B.B.King, Susan Tedeschi, Buddy Guy and Taj Mahal amongst them. For a few years, until 2015 Greene had another band with Joan Osbourne called Trigger Hippy. And he was a member of 'Phil Lesh and Friends' until 2008. He also plays with The Black Crowes from time to time. I've seen both. Trigger Hippy with Osbourne at an intimate seated performance, and The Black Crowes at BottleRock Napa Music Festival with Jackie. And both were excellent!

For a decade I worked at the KRSH radio station, and there was no better feeling than coming to work and seeing Jackie Greene waiting for his on air segment. I used to sit with him in the conference room and chat before he was called into the studio.

If Jackie ever comes to a venue near you, I suggest checking the show out. He always gives a good solid perfromance. And I've never been disappointed. His music is great and he's a nice guy to boot!
